Netherlands and into Germany

We entered the Marina Seaport and passed Fortress Island (top photo). It is part of the Unesco World Heritage Defence Line of Amsterdam, a system of forts, dams, locks, dykes and ramparts around Amsterdam constructed between 1880 and 1920. By flooding the surrounding areas, Amsterdam could be secured against invasion within 48 hours. The bottom photo shows one of the oil rigs that was damaged during a recent storm in the North Sea. It was towed here for repairs.
